tiny steps

By Thursday evening I’m suffering from failure to thrive. Why can’t  we just be compelled to work till noon instead of the late afternoon. I can barely think straight. My mind is saying “couch, couch” and the last thing I want is to brave this miserable weather to get to the Hackspace.

Scott is ascending the hierarchy of expert pickguard makers. Look at all that shaved plastic.

I hate these youtube videos that show someone building their guitar like it’s a ten-minute montage. Yesterday it took us at least 20 minutes to find the right outlet to plug the router into.

Vancouver Hack Space

We joined the Vancouver Hack Space over the weekend and entered the space on Tues as fully fledged members.
So far so good. The place looks like we can do all kinds of work there, and the people were very friendly.

Our first task was to try creating a template of a pick guard from one of Scott's guitars. The goal was to see whether we could use the right tools and make use of the woodshop and actually accomplish something by the end of the evening.

And...

game on

Using the router to shape the wood to our template

The plywood is now ready for us to make a tortoise shell pick guard.

Getting started

We're reading guitar building books and endlessly watching YouTube videos of people doing their instrument builds. We've got an ambitious goal of designing and making our own guitars from scratch, but we're going to make many stops along the way. Let's go!!
